Easy Squid Game Dalgona Candy Recipe (No Flame Method.)
Last night I ended up helping my 11 Year old daughter to make the latest sweet trend inspired by the Squid Game series, using the available tools in our kitchen. [N.B. She has not seen Squid Game as it is rated MA however all her friends talk about it at school] We searched for some recipes but I wasn't about to use a ladle on a naked flame! So as I do, I played around to see what I could use with the existing equipment in my kitchen.
☆ Tip the smaller the frying pan the better. The mixture was so much easier when I switched to the small 1 egg sized mini frying pan. (see video further down)
There were a few fails. If you try this, don't despair at the wonky, burnt or set too fast ones. You must work quickly so naturally some mishaps will occur. But after you get the hang of it the process becomes really easy!
Failed 1st Attempts |
To make the Squid Game Dalgona Candy in the video I am using:
A standard electric hot plate. (Not naked flame) on Low.
Ingredients:
1.5 tablespoons of sugar
1 pinch OR 1/8 tea spoon of Bi-Carb Soda
Utensils:
Small Frying Pan
Disposable wooden Chopsticks (for some authenticity)
Silicone Mat
Spatula/Egg Flip greased underside to prevent sticking.
Cookie cutters of your choice (I used small ones)
Method:
Heat sugar on low, until it starts to melt.
Stir until all dissolved.
Remove pan off heat.
Quickly stir in Bi-Carb.
Pour onto silicone mat.*
Stamp with chosen cutter leave to set.
*Optional at this stage flatten with flat spatula /egg flip, I found this to be the trickiest part. You want to hold just long enough to let it flatten and set enough to come off spatula but also still warm enough to quickly stamp your shape.
This was my 1st attempt. So I am sure with a little more practice they will be much quicker.
Have you made your own Dalgona yet? What method did you use and do you have any tips?
* □○☆ Seen in the third episode, the game of "bbopgi" or "Dalgona Candy" has gone viral on TikTok. (Top Image Credits: Twitter/ Netflix France)
Great job on these! Just like in the series. Did her friends lick it to try to get the shape out without breaking???
ReplyDeleteOh I will have to ask her! No idea as she took them to school. But at least I scored mum points! (I'll take them even if it was just for 5 minutes! )
